Vegetarian Alkaline Foods

Acidosis is a condition in which the pH level of the blood is too acidic, according to Dr. James F. Balch, author of Prescription for Nutritional Healing. Alternative medicine practitioners believe that acidosis can cause a variety of symptoms, including insomnia, rheumatoid arthritis, low blood pressure, hard stools and constipation. Some nutritionists and alternative medicine practitioners also believe that consuming foods, called alkalizing foods, can help bring blood pH levels into a normal range, reducing the symptoms of acidosis. Several of these foods are vegetarian.
