Summertime Sipping: 4 Tips for Staying Hydrated this Summer

We know that staying hydrated is important all year long, but when the temperatures rise, and you find yourself spending more time in the sun, you sweat more and your body’s hydration needs are even more demanding. You’ve heard that eight cups per day (64 ounces) is ideal, you may have also heard about drinking half of your body weight in ounces each day to stay properly hydrated. The color of your urine is a good indicator of whether you are hydrated – it should be a pale yellow or straw color, which is a good sign that you are drinking an adequate amount. Here are four tips to help you meet your hydration needs this summer, and all year long:

Always have water with you; on the go, at your desk, in the car, at the beach. If you have a bottle of water easily within reach, it is more likely that you will drink throughout the day, without having to make a conscious effort. We created the 64oz bottle just for this purpose – convenience!

Feeling tired? Go for the cold water, not coffee. Studies have shown that people feel more alert after drinking water, so grab a few sips of H2O before opting for a caffeinated or sugary option when you hit that afternoon slump.

Have a nightcap…of herbal tea. Not only will this help you avoid any calorie-laden late-night munchies, but if you regularly drink tea in the evening, you will find that you’re adding an extra cup of water to your daily intake. It also becomes a relaxing nighttime ritual that you may begin to look forward to at the end of a long day.

“Eat” your water! Water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, greens, zucchini, cantaloupe, eggplant, pineapple, bell peppers, pears, grapefruit, apple and mango are all great ways to meet your hydration needs, while also benefiting from their many vitamins and nutrients.
