Summer Hydration Tips
Each Summer, it seems that we are breaking new heat records, and this year is no exception. The recent reports of a “Heat Dome” enveloping the country are jarring reminders of the importance of staying hydrated, especially when temperatures climb.
For daily activities, the standard recommendation for water intake is 8 cups, or 64 ounces, which is why we designed a 64oz bottle of evamor so that you could meet all of your daily hydration needs in a single bottle! However, in these hotter months, and especially if you are exercising, you may find yourself requiring more water.
Hydrate with Food:
Drinking water like evamor is only one way to hydrate; choosing water-rich foods such as in-season watermelon, cucumbers, celery, strawberries and greens can also contribute to your fluid intake, and offer the added benefit of being low in calories and healthy!
WebMD recommends the following formula for water intake before, during and after exercise:
- One to two hours before your workout, drink 15 to 20 ounces of water
- 15 minutes before you begin, drink between 8 and 10 ounces of water
- During your workout, drink another 8 ounces every 15 minutes.
For children, encourage them to drink water regularly, and limit salty, processed snacks in favor of more hydrating options. Help them recognize the signs of dehydration, which can include fatigue, headaches, lack of concentration and dry skin.
Don’t forget about your animals! Be sure to keep pets’ water bowls filled and keep them cool during these hot months.
